About Surveyor Stack

A free, independent list of tools for UK surveyors, sorted by the job you're doing rather than by brand.

How listings are checked

  • Every tool links to its official site, and we opened that page (or found it via web search where the site blocks automated checks). The source is shown on each card.
  • Prices only appear where we read them on the official page, with the date checked. Otherwise we say "price not checked".
  • "Free (verified)" means the official page says it is free or open source. "Free tier" means there's a free option alongside paid plans.
  • No star ratings, reviews or user numbers. We don't make them up and we don't copy them from marketing.
  • The up/down votes on each tool are real, anonymous votes from visitors. Every tool started at zero on launch day (15 Oct 2026), and we never add or seed votes.

How we order tools

We don't use scores. Within each category, tools are listed in a suggested starting order based on three questions, in this order:

  1. UK fit: is it UK-specific, or built around GB/NI data and standards (OS, OSTN15, PAS 128, RICS)?
  2. Cost of trying it: is it free, open source or with a free tier we could verify?
  3. Job fit: how directly does it do the job named in the category?

Ties keep the order we researched them in, which is not a quality judgement. Grid Marks (Mark's own) is placed after other UK-specific free tools in its category, so the directory never ranks its owner's tool first. Sponsors never change this order, and neither do votes: they only affect the optional "Top voted" sort.

We're not affiliated with any listed company unless stated. Grid Marks (gridmarks.co.uk) is run by Mark Slater, who also runs this directory, and is labelled "Mark's own".
